HS357 Fall 2014 The Peele and Leazar Halls Path Improvements Project was done in collaboration with the office of the NC State University Architect’s Facilities Division as the designer to develop the ‘Path’ for the existing roadbed between Leazar and Tompkins Halls. During this service learning experience, students explored design proposals for the integration of people spaces and pedestrian circulation while improving stormwater management for this important area that creates a prominent edge to the Court of North Carolina and the Mary Yarborough Courtyard. Students studied the alignment, the grading and drainage needed to create a new pedestrian path adjacent to Peele Hall. The designs for the new path will eventually replace an existing driveway and parking spaces, and make connections to other existing paths. The driveway is the last remnant of one of the earliest streets on campus, and the design proposals followed the guiding principles and design guidelines set forth in the campus physical master plan, A Campus of Neighborhoods and Paths. Student designs were evaluated by the office of the Landscape architect and will be used to brainstorm about future solution for the area.
